When I returned from serving during Operation Desert Storm, I did not have the knowledge of any resources available to me to help me transition back to the civilian world. I struggled with depression, suicidal thoughts, and anxiety about my future and reconnecting to society. I didn’t have health insurance and didn’t know where to go to get help. I finally found someone who would listen to my struggles and helped me gained a new perspective on life and what my purpose was. I don’t want other veterans to have feel the same sense of hopelessness that I did. I want them to know that there is a future after the military, and it can be just as fulfilling as serving their country.
